Day 2: While slowly diving into the diet

February 19th

Good morning everyone! Hope all of you had a pleasant morning and I wish you an easy working day ahead!

Breakfast. We had an oat bread with milk-/lactose- free Flora and chicken sausage. Yogurt we have replaced with oat based yogurt with raspberry flavor – Vadelma kaurapohjainen gurtti by Valio Oddlygood. And a cup of freshly brewed coffee!

The day ran very fast for us like it always does… Again, somehow in a hurry of a daily routine we did not eat anything at all. We all know how important to have small healthy snacks during the day to maintain the energy level in the body. And I promise tonight to come up with something for tomorrow!

Our dinner. This time we decided to have a lighter meal compare to our last evening. Whole day Anton and I felt a bit of heaviness in the stomach. Perhaps the reason for that is our previous eating habit for a dinner snack time: just a sandwich or small salad and fat free curd (rahka/quark).

We finished the leftovers of chicken and baked potatoes. Most of the plate I filled for us with greens and vegetables. Very simple, just sliced all of them in a bowl – cabbage, radishes, swede, lettuce leaves and spinach.

Full disclosure: To adapt to this new nutrition programme easier and faster, I in advance and gradually have begun to consume less red meat and sweets. Regarding Finnish dairy products, which I love unconditionally, were the hardest part to refuse!

Dessert. For our dessert we got prunes plus some fresh plums and blueberries with sugar. (Blueberries we freeze in summer and then during autumn/winter season defrost them and eat with a sprinkle of sugar or mix them with some curd or quark).
Today was the first time I have tried a fresh passion fruit. What I liked the most was the acidy that complements its extraordinary taste. In general, I prefer some sourness as a balancing element in many dishes. And I love all citrus fruits, especially grapefruits. When I studied all the products for this diet it immediately seemed to me that there was a shortage of products with strong acidity in flavors. So I was very glad to find its presence in this fruit!

Today’s «special element» of the meal as you’ve already guessed is a passion fruit.

The fruit is a rich resource of vitamins A and C, E, K, folic acid and minerals. I was surprised that 50% of this fruit contains Vitamin C. Especially in the period of a flu season it will be a good substitute for a citrus to support the immune system. It also contains a lot of fiber, which slows down the absorption of food and reduces the rate of sugar absorption into the blood. Serotonin in passion fruit restores and improves the nervous system. The seeds have sedative effect for your body. This fruit normalizes your blood pressure, relieves symptoms of migraine and asthma, help preserve vision. Such a small fruit in the size but surely a jewel for our nutrition programme!

And now more realistically, we bought only a few of them, since it is not particularly the cheapest in the price range. We have decided to eat them from time to time like once in a several days during this diet.
